Safe Travels

The state of Guerrero and Acapulco have been awarded the “Safe Travels” seal, an international recognition developed, endorsed, and launched by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). This recognition acknowledges the complete and proper implementation of hygiene and sanitation measures established in protocols for COVID-19.

With this recognition, Acapulco provides confidence and safety to both domestic and international travelers visiting its beaches. Today, the destination is fully prepared to continue creating unique and unforgettable stories, offering delightful experiences, and, most importantly, adhering to the highest health standards and sanitation protocols in all establishments in the port.

The “Safe Travels” seal is based on the following four pillars necessary to obtain certification:

PREPARE

Operational and staff preparation. Acapulco ensures that it can optimize operational quality and has trained all service providers in the destination to prepare and implement the designated operational plans for health care and infection prevention.

REBUILD

Rebuilding traveler confidence. In the attractions, beaches, and experiences of the destination, trust should be improved through transparency and communication with visitors. This is closely linked with the third pillar, ensuring a safe experience for both tourists and service providers and the local community through enhanced cleaning and hygiene processes.

IMPLEMENT

Implement appropriate policies. As a Safe Travel destination, Acapulco must implement the policies outlined at the governmental level, indicating that the port has made operational and administrative adjustments to implement the various protocols required to operate in the new normal.

Committed to the local community and its visitors, the Government of the State of Guerrero and the Government of Acapulco have implemented various strategies and efforts to protect their health and ensure their well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some of the highlighted measures:

AIRPORT

Sanitary filters have been installed at the Acapulco International Airport to provide security for travelers arriving or departing through this route and to safeguard the health of all personnel working at and using the airport facilities.

SANITIZATION

In both long-distance and local ground transportation, awareness of the use of face masks has been reinforced, and continuous sanitization of their units has been carried out. 62 sanitization modules have been set up throughout the tourist area, especially at beach access points, and free testing modules for virus detection have been established.

COMMUNICATION

The COVITEL helpline at 8007725834 has been established free of charge to enable direct communication and citizen assistance regarding possible symptoms, medical care, current figures, infection prevention measures, topics related to vaccination, and general pandemic information.

QUALITY SEAL

Acapulco has received the “Punto Limpio” quality seal, which aims to train companies and tourist service providers in the correct implementation of hygiene and safety protocols in the destination. This initiative helps prevent an increase in infections and safeguards the health of the community.

This certificate, granted by the Secretary of Tourism and endorsed by the Secretary of Health and the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, focuses on encouraging micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the tourism sector to implement good hygiene practices in their management models. The objective is to protect the health of their customers, employees, and tourists, always promoting a culture of hygienic and sanitary quality in tourism activities.

CONSULTANTS

To ensure the proper certification of establishments, a group of specialized consultants has been trained and registered in a unique registry with the Secretary of Tourism. They are recognized as “Punto Limpio Consultants” and are responsible for guiding and providing information on planning, organization, methodology, costs, and addressing inquiries for interested parties.

PROGRAM

“Punto Limpio” is dedicated to all businesses in the tourism sector, including restaurants, bars, hotels, cafes, travel agencies, spas, water parks, and more. During the certification process, they receive guidance from a consultant to assess hygienic quality, training for managers, good practices by business unit, quality assurance, and advice and validation.

RESULTS

The “Punto Limpio” program has trained over 4,000 companies in the destination, ensuring that they have qualified individuals who are knowledgeable about hygiene procedures and standards. This not only protects service providers, the community, and visitors but also helps preserve the environment. It positions Acapulco as a destination that guarantees the safety of all.
